How It Works
From the first photo to the last item on your list, here’s how we plan, estimate and schedule your work.
Tell us about your project
Start with our project request form. Tell us what needs attention, where it is in your home and when you’d like the work completed. Add photos and measurements when available—a close-up of the issue and a wider view of the area are especially helpful.
Have more than one job in mind? Send us your whole list. Grouping small tasks into one visit helps us make the most of our time in your home, so we can often complete them more efficiently than through several separate visits.
Getting your estimate
Virtual estimates
For projects we can assess from your description, photos and measurements, we can prepare a virtual estimate without a site visit. We’ll let you know if we need additional information.
In-person visits
Some projects need a closer look. A HandyHuman will meet with you to discuss the work, take photos and measurements, and talk through possible solutions before we prepare your estimate.
When to expect your estimate
We’ll respond to every project form submission within one business day. We aim to send estimates within three business days of your completed request or site visit. Projects with several options, custom materials or custom carpentry may take longer—sometimes up to a couple of weeks—to allow for research and material pricing.
Your estimate will arrive by email and text for you to review.
Understanding your proposal
Your proposal outlines the work and estimated cost so you can review the scope before moving forward.
Jobs estimated at up to seven hours are billed hourly, generally with a two-hour minimum. Time beyond the minimum is billed in 15-minute increments. Projects estimated at eight hours or more receive flat-rate pricing. Materials are listed separately from labor.
If you have questions about what’s included, please ask before approving your proposal.
Approving and scheduling
Once you approve your estimate, we’ll send a deposit invoice. We can reserve your workdays on our calendar as soon as your deposit is paid. The required deposit covers:
50% of estimated labor.
100% of estimated material costs.
Payment options
We accept credit cards, Zelle, cash and checks. A processing fee applies to credit card payments; the applicable fee will be disclosed before payment.
Frequently asked questions
Can I combine several repairs into one request?
Absolutely. Combining small repairs is often the most efficient way to work through your list. While a drywall patch dries, for example, we can tackle another job in your home. Having several tasks ready helps us make productive use of the visit.
Can I request just one small repair?
Yes. Individual repairs are welcome, and our usual two-hour minimum applies. If your original repair takes less than two hours, you can ask us to handle other tasks during the remaining time. If those additional tasks take the visit beyond two hours, the extra time is billed in 15-minute increments.
Do I need to know exactly how the work should be done?
No. Describe the issue or what you’d like to improve, and include photos when possible. If we need a site visit to understand the project or discuss options, we’ll let you know.
